WebCryptococcosis is an infection caused by Cryptococcus neoformans in immunosuppressed patients and by Cryptococcus gattii in immunocompetent patients. C. neoformans is found in the soil and feces of birds such as canaries, parrots and pigeons. C. gattii is endemic to Australia and is found in the koala bear. WebPulmonary cryptococcosis without dissemination is unusual in children. Presenting findings include unexplained recurrent fever, cough with scant sputum, intrathoracic lymphadenopathy, and focal or diffuse pulmonary infiltrates. The infection also can be asymptomatic, with pulmonary nodules revealed on routine chest radiograph. 3. Diagnosis
